Blur Background

Blurring an image background lets your subject stand out and capture the viewer's undivided attention.

Obtaining a blurry background depends on many factors that we won't be able to explore in detail here - but generally speaking, the larger the camera sensor (in terms of actual physical size, not resolution), the narrower the minimum depth of field, and the easier it is to defocus the background and achieve this artistic effect.

If a picture nevertheless turned out with a sharp backdrop, a defocused effect can still be achieved in Photo Lab by selecting the parts you want to blur and applying a defocusing filter by choosing the command Filter > Gaussian Blur.
